Take a moment to reuse and help the environment

We choose what to wear daily.  Our actions and decisions can help to protect the environment, so using one of the wide selection of eco friendly bags that are on the market seems like it is so simple. Retailers do provide choices out there and we tend to wonder if the right bag merely come down to personality or style?  Or do we look at the quality and make of the bag ? So we’ve talked to experts and put together a buying guide to help you find the right reusable shopping bag for your lifestyle. You can use them for years to come, they’ll keep your food fresher and you won’t miss those disposable plastic and paper bags one bit. Why tote a reusable bag? Julie Zizka, owner and designer of The Tote Buddy, a case that holds several reusable bags, told us that using making the switch to these carryalls was “the simplest thing that I can do to help heal the planet.” She’s passionate about eliminating single-use items that are just tossed in the trash and assures us that making the switch is easy. Steven Apfelbaum, an ecologist and the founder of Applied Ecological Services, Inc., a leading ecological consulting firm says that he uses reusable bags not only for shopping, but also for tasks like gardening and toting pet supplies. He explained that the process of making traditional paper grocery bags includes over-harvesting our forests, chemical off-gassing and a lot of energy consumption. And don’t even get him started on plastic bags. They blow all over the landscape, fill up our landfills and pose a hazard to wildlife. Plus, he says, “there is very little need for using air and water tight plastic bags. In fact, some air flow is better for produce and will prevent mold and mildew.”

Retail Giants Take Leadership In Using Eco-friendly Bags

Here at foldablebags.com, we aim to promote eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags.

We are aware that using plastic bags is like a bad habit that’s hard to remove. We cannot blame you because our society continues to use it.  It is convenient to use , cheap and readily accessible.  Most retail stores are offering it free for every purchase.

However, the trend is slowly changing. Some chain stores such as Target, Carrefour, Fred Meyer, JC Penney, IKEA, Tesco and Macy’s are actively promoting the use of alternative eco-friendly bags.

Personally, I think it’s a brave move for these chain stores to pursue this initiative of using eco-friendly bags.   However, I applaud them for taking leadership in doing the right thing.  In the near future, I hope that other stores will follow.

In fact,  once you get used to the idea of not using any plastic bags you will realize that there is really no need for one.   A reusable bag is a more practical and eco-friendly alternative for all your shopping needs!  There are so many designs available!  To add, most can be conveniently folded into the size of your wallet or even into a tiny key chain.   You can always carry one in your bag or your pocket!

Just like these retail giants, I hope you can take a stand against plastic bags and set the trend in using eco-friendly alternatives.  Checkout our eco store to view a range of foldable reusable bags and start using one now!

A Call for Eco-Friendly Kids

Recently, I volunteered as a parent helper for my daughter’s school excursion.

Prior to this event, I received a note that recess and lunch should be packed into two separate disposable bags.

On the day of the excursion, almost of all the kids had their food in disposable plastic bags.  Thus, after their recess the trash can was half full of empty plastic bags…and that doesn’t include lunch yet.

My daughter was the only one using a reusable folding bag. I gave her one which she can easily fold back into a compact size.  The eco bag was small enough to fit in her pocket.
